Domain SEO Audit:unlocking conversions from existing traffic

Overview
A high-traffic site with untapped revenue.
Scaling a website isn't just about increasing traffic, it's about converting that traffic into revenue. This audit was for a client shifting focus from app downloads to website-driven conversions. The site was already pulling in over 10K monthly visits, but that traffic wasn't generating any revenue or translating into meaningful action.
A note on confidentiality
This is a real audit with real data, but the client is anonymous by agreement: no company name, no root domain, and no page names. The client is described only as an online courses and subscription platform serving a US women and LGBTQ+ audience. Two specific page names are genericised as "a single seasonal landing page" and "a definitional page", and the keyword one of them ranked for is omitted.
The problem
A traffic channel, not a revenue channel.
The website had been treated purely as a traffic channel: blogs optimised for search, not for conversion. The user journey was fragmented and monetisation opportunities were being missed. The goal was to realign SEO strategy toward actual course purchases.
The approach: one audit across SEO and CRO, not two
A combined SEO and CRO audit identifying gaps in content structure, user journey, and search intent alignment. The focus was restructuring content to support mid-funnel and bottom-funnel conversion, giving organic traffic a clear path to the client's bite-sized courses and subscription plans.
The audit at a glance
Every signal the audit turned on, in one table.
Every number here comes from the audit record.
Traffic
SignalFigure
Peak organic month36,000++
July 2023 reached 36,000+ organic visitors in a single month, driven almost entirely by one seasonal landing page rather than by the site as a whole.
One page inside that peak12,000++
A single seasonal landing page accounted for 12,000+ of those visitors on its own, which is why the peak did not survive the season.
Monthly visits at audit10K++
The site was already pulling in over 10K monthly visits when the audit began. Demand was never the problem.
Plateau after the decline~7,000/day+
Traffic declined sharply after the peak, with no significant recovery after 16 April 2024, and plateaued at roughly 7,000 users a day at the time of the audit.
Organic-driven revenue at audit0+
None of that traffic was generating revenue or translating into meaningful action, the reason the engagement existed.
Crawled pages vs organic pagesDiverging+
Crawled pages increased across two years while organically performing pages stayed roughly flat: an indexing and relevance problem, not a content-volume problem. No absolute counts are recorded in the audit, so none are shown.
Technical
SignalFigure
Title tags over 60 characters122+
Titles past roughly 60 characters get truncated in the result, so the click is lost before the page is ever reached.
Meta descriptions over 160 characters104+
The same truncation problem one line lower in the result, on 104 pages.
Broken internal links207+
207 broken internal links: authority leaking inside the site's own navigation, and dead ends for readers who were already engaged.
Broken external links46+
46 broken outbound links, dead ends for readers and crawlers alike, and a site-health signal that is cheap to fix.
The honest delta here is a plan, not a result. This engagement delivered the audit and the roadmap; no post-implementation figures were shared back, so none are claimed.
Evidence
One month carried the year, and then it stopped.
Ahrefs: the July 2023 surge to 36,000+ organic visitors in a single month, and the decline that followed.
The same surge, traced to one seasonal landing page: 12,000+ visitors on its own.
Crawled pages against organic pages over two years, the gap that made this an indexing problem, not a content-volume one.

What it taught me
Traffic is not the asset. The path from the traffic to the purchase is the asset.
This site had already won the hard part: people were arriving. What it had never been built to do was carry them to a course or a subscription. Reading SEO and CRO as one problem rather than two is what made the plan sequenceable: fix what wastes the click first, then the journey, then go looking for new demand.
